The Feldenkrais Method® developed by its founder Moshe Feldenkrais, uses Awareness Through Movement® lessons and hands-on Functional Integration® to improve functional abilities by increasing your body awareness. This helps make daily activities such as walking, getting into and out of a chair or a car, lifting, dressing, prolonged sitting at work, or household chores with minimal effort. The Feldenkrais Method® also helps improve recreational and competitive sports performance and performing arts technique, reduce muscular tension and stress, decrease pain, and improve balance.
Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) lessons are creative, 30-45 minute verbally directed movement patterns that teach you to become aware of inefficient or unwanted muscle reactions and movements that prevent you from achieving the optimal body control needed to reach your maximal potential. The ATM lessons are explorations in pain free movements that take place lying on a mat or treatment table, as well as in sitting or standing. Participants typically feel more relaxed with improved flexibility and ease of movement after ATM lessons and report enhanced performance as they learn to move more naturally with less tension.
Functional Integration® (FI) sessions are private hands-on sessions that last 45-60 minutes and use gentle passive and assisted body movements applied by the practitioner. As with ATM, the focus during FI is on enhancing body awareness for easier, more efficient movement which is accomplished by re-educating your body and brain to choose the most effective motions to best perform your desired activities. Functional Integration also promotes relaxation, improved flexibility and ease of movement for better health and wellness.
